Introducing ballet to young children ages 2 and up can be a delightful experience, focusing on fun while laying the groundwork for more advanced skills in the future. At this age, the emphasis should be on developing basic fundamentals in a playful and engaging manner. It is all about blending movement, music, and creativity while keeping it fun and engaging.
Here’s How :
-
Our ballet program teaches the fundamental positions of the feet (first and second position) and arms as well as a main focus on balance. Introducing simple movements like pliés (bending), tendus (stretching the foot), and relevés (rising onto the toes). Focusing on their ability to mimic an hold each position up to one 8 count. Incorporating a variety of music, we will help children learn to move to different rhythms and tempos.
-
Our coaches will focus on encouraging good posture, with a straight back and shoulders down. We will also use imagery, like pretending to be a tall tree or a delicate butterfly, to teach precision in movement.
-
Combining movement with storytelling, encourages children to act out parts of a story through dance. It is a wonderful way to engage their imaginations while introducing them to basic ballet movements. Children at this age love to immerse themselves in stories, and combining storytelling with movement allows them to bring characters and ideas to life through dance.
-
Ballet helps with a creative outlet. Encouraging kids to recognize and express different emotions through movement. The program encourages children to connect their emotions with physical movement, helping them understand how to regulate their feelings. Through movement, children learn to express and identify different emotions (happy, sad, angry, scared, proud, etc.). Interactive storytelling and free dance allow children to explore their emotions through imagination and creative expression.
